I'm An Idiot

Argh. I looked at the website for this weekend's conference, to double-check what I needed to have with me, and I realized that the agent I have an appt. with doesn't consider fantasy. I had looked all the info over carefully before registering, but somehow I must have gotten confused.

So I emailed the organizer and asked if she could switch me. I doubt it, but it's worth a shot. In any case, I told her to give my appt. with this person to someone else.

Oh well. What can I say?  At least I made a lot of progress the past month or so.

(tries not to cry)

  2. Im sorry Christine. Maybe they can help - you never know who might have canceled etc. See you there! Are you coming on Saturday or Friday after work for the reception?

  3. Oh no! I've done the same thing though. Not in a conference setting, but with querying etc. And once I'm quite sure that I looked the fool because I submitted, was form-rejected and only later discovered that the criteria I had based my submission on was outdated by two years, and that the agent had long since changed what they were looking for and didn't even rep YA any longer...

At the risk of sounding fatalistic, maybe it was meant to be. Maybe you'll be having coffee instead of in your appointment and meet Dream Agent X and voila! I mean, it could happen :)

Don't let this damp your trip!

  4. Hey Krista... I'm driving up early Sat. morning. I'll be looking for you!

I've done that drive to Allentown in Friday rush before and I can tell you I wouldn't get there for the reception.

  5. Have a wonderful time! And dang it on the agent snafu. Hopefully it'll be easy to either squeeze you in or just switch you.

  8. I just found out that the only agent who actually considers fantasy, and whom I listed as my second choice, won't be attending. I really feel like this is a wasted effort to even go now. I mean, I'm sure I'll learn something from the sessions, but it's a long drive, and going to be a really long day, and I wouldn't have signed up if I knew I wouldn't be able to pitch.

Oh well, I've been saying all along that if it's meant to be, it will happen, and if not, it won't. So I guess I'll just go have a little pity-party and do the dishes.

  9. Sarah LaPolla is looking for paranormal romance/urban fantasy. It might be worth it to seek her out.

  10. Hi Nicole,
Yes, I saw that on her bio. But mine isn't paranormal or urban. It's just regular fantasy. But perhaps she could suggest someone.
I was trying to think of how I would describe my story, and I would call it "soft fantasy." Meaning, not all those hard-bodied amazon women with swords chopping people's heads off.

  11. She's a newer agent so she might be more willing to see something outside of her listed genres. And it doesn't hurt any to try.

  12. I've heard really great things about LaPolla. It can't hurt to give it a shot.

I apologize for the word verification. I hate it, but the spammers made me do it.
