Announcing the Rainy Day Blogfest

I love rain.  I love the way it sounds, the way it smells, the way it makes the air feel, the way it tastes on my tongue.  Do you love rain, too?  Or do rainy days get you down?  Does rain interfere with your outdoor plans?  Or make commuting horrible?  Or inspire you to write poetic verses about the heavens weeping o'er the fields?

What about your characters?  How does rain affect them?

You will have a chance to share in my Rainy Day Blogfest on August 25th.  The burning intensity of August has me longing for a little wet weather, even if it is only fictional.

Please help me share the word on your own blog.  Thank you!

P.S. Let's also keep our contributions to a 500 word limit.  After all, as Shakespeare said: "Brevity is the soul of wit."  So gather your wits (and raindrops) and join us here on the 25th.

  1. Rain plays a big role in my first book, so this should be easy!

  2. I'm glad, Ted! Don't you love the easy ones? Are you doing the Weather Blogfest on the 14th, too?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Definitely an area where I need to stretch my skills! See ya there! Is there a word-count limit? 500 worked well for the Dramatic Tension Blogfest...

  4. Yes, Will, I think a word count limit is a good idea. I will add that to the post. Thank you!

  5. I haven't heard about a weather blogfest. In fact, I keep stumbling across blogfest entries for blogfests that I never heard about and I wish I could have entered! Who's running the weather blogfest?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Fun idea, Christine. I haven't had much time for blogfests lately (mostly the visiting other entries part), but I might consider this one. My novel out on submission has lots of rain, since it takes place in England.

    ReplyDelete
  7. *hmm* Haven't decided if I should use something old or write something new for this. Rain in England = nuisance; personally, rain in Malaysia = thank God, at least it's not boiling now!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sounds like fun - I just realized I haven't given my character in my current WIP any scenes in the rain. I love a warm summer rain.

  9. there's no rain in Blackheart, but there is in Eldala and in my chick novel. maybe i'll use one of those - if either one is short enough.

  10. This sounds like fun, I'll have to see what I can rummage up or rewrite. or make up lol.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sounds cool! I'm in, and I'll add you to my list.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I love this idea! My work-in-progress is set in England, but I haven't had a rain scene yet. I think it's about time. S

  13. Ted, the blogfests get spread by word-of-mouth, which is why I ask for people to mention it on their own blog, or tweet or FB it. I refer to Andrew at The Write Runner who maintains a list of current blogfests:
Upcoming Blogfests . He's usually up to date.

The Weather Blogfest on the 14th is being hosted by Nick at A Little Slice of Nothing.

  14. I've added you to my sidebar list of upcoming blogfests...good luck with the entries! Can't wait to read them.

  15. This is going to be fun! I'm happy to join in. :)

  16. Sounds fun. I have a few good rain scenes!

  17. Interesting. August is the month of weather for blogfests I guess. Well, there is the weather blogfest and this rain one. I have this one down and look forward to it as it's a couple days before my own blogfest.

  18. Love the rain. I put it on my calendar!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Can't pass this one up- love to write me some rain!

    will link very soon.

  20. @Laurel - I know what you mean about the time factor. I hope you can enter. I love your writing.

@J.C. - I never thought I'd compare New Jersey to Malaysia, but yes, if it rains here I have the same feeling: Thank God it's not boiling hot right now!

@Mary - Warm summer rain is the best kind there is! Especially when the sun is shining through it.

@Amanda, @Angie, @Bru, @E. Arroyo - Thank you so much for signing up! I've tried a Blogfest in the past and it didn't go so well, probably because I didn't know how to promote it, so I'm really grateful you decided to come by and join! I can't wait to read your entries.

@Dawn - Yeah, I did think about the fact that the Weather Blogfest is on the 9th, but actually it might be easier as some people can kill two blogfests with one entry. I suppose it's a natural thing, since so many activities this month depend on the weather. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for sunshine next week while my family visit.

@Belinda: Yes, you must have at least one rainy scene. Whenever I watch a movie set in England in which it's sunny most of the time, I find myself wondering how long they had to wait for that sunshine in order to film.

@Michelle: I vote for the chick novel. I haven't read much of that, other than the first scene on the airplane. You can always edit for length.

In general, I find it hard to read blogfest entries that are more than two or three paragraphs long. I think the key to blog posting is to keep it short and sweet. Of course, I don't always follow my own advice.

  21. @Summer - I'm debating myself whether to use something already written or write something new for a change!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hm. I shall think on this. I haven't blogfested in a while, what with epic busyness all round, but I can pimp it a bit for you, if you'd like. :)

Also, growing up in Scotland, I'd say I'm pretty familiar with rain. Just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks, Simon! Re: Scotland, I love Enya and her song 'A Day Without Rain' always reminds me of how climates affect our perceptions. For me, a day without rain is miserable and hot, but for her (living in Scotland), it was an inspiration for a lovely, sunny mood.

  24. My first-ever blogfest. Should be interesting. And I love rain in fiction.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think I'd be up for the challenge! I have a blogfest the week before if you're interested and I'm keeping the 25th open for yours as I contemplate what I want to write! As soon as I have it, consider my name good as gold on your list!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I put it up at my blog. I was going to mention the weather blogfest on the 14th, but I see it's been repeated several times :)

Thanks for the reminder e-mail - I kept forgetting to stop by.

I gotta run - my lunch is over.

  27. Thanks, Donna! I will soon be working full time and won't have as much time for playing online, either.

Jen, what's your blogfest going to be? I'll join!

Wendy, Thanks for jumping in! Blogfests are definitely addictive. I did my first one a few months ago and when I found out how much fun they were, I couldn't stop. To paraphrase those Dorit's commercials, "Blog all you want... we'll have more!"

  28. I just realized that my comment about the Weather Blogfest in response to Ted's question got deleted. My stupid Windows Update restarted my laptop while I was in the midst of typing it.

The Weather Blogfest is being hosted by Nick at A Little Slice of Nothing.

Several bloggers include lists of upcoming fests, including Andrew at The WriteRunner, Raquel Byrnes and Tessa@Tessa's Blurb.

  29. I wrote much of my story while living in Iceland, where it rains almost every day.

  32. Hi,

I'm stepping aside on this because I posted for the weather blogfest on 14th, and for this one it would have to be a repeat posting. That said, I'll drop by to read the entries!

At present sorting a suitable snippet for the Guess the Character blogfest.

  46. Oh WOW...25 entries! This is so cool! I can't wait for tomorrow.

Unfortunately, however, I have a dinner meeting tomorrow evening, plus my monthly writer's meeting on Thursday. So I may not be able to catch up with reading entries until the weekend.

I didn't know when I scheduled this that I'd be starting a brand new job this week. I thought I'd still be in my last week of vacation before school starts up again. But I promise to read all of your entries!

    ReplyDelete
  47. How Great! Glad I saw this before it was too late. Can't wait for all the fun!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I don't write much weather, but I ADORE rain. Count me in! I'm sure I must have a scene with precipitation somewhere.

Congratulations and good luck with the new job!

  49. I'm sorry I don't have time to respond to everyone individually tonight. Welcome, all of you, and thanks for participating!!! It's so great to meet new people via these things.

    Tomorrow should be Fantastic!

  50. I did my post, because the day dawns earlier in Malaysia, where I live, than in the US. Looking forward to reading the other entries!

It's possible I stayed up too late to do this. *sighs*

I apologize for the word verification. I hate it, but the spammers made me do it.
